Book Drive! (La Jolla Light)
Warwick’s a drop off point for WitKids books drive
WitKids, a non-profit that believes in empowering kids to do “Whatever It Takes!” to make a difference through service learning projects, is collecting books this month that will be donated to one of several causes, according to Tiffany Barroga, an intern with the program.
The effort continues through Friday, with a goal of collecting 2,011 books by 2011.
Volunteers can drop their books off at Warwick’s and in return receive a discount on their purchases for donation. They will also receive a raffle ticket for one of four free books from Warwick’s. If they choose to purchase a book from Warwick’s to donate, the store is offering 15 percent off any books for donation, she wrote in an email.
Each month WitKids members are in charge of a community service project and get to make the choices and make a difference.
“This month’s fan-chosen WitProject is called the ‘Wit-astical Book Drive.’” TIffany wrote. “The people that donate can choose if they want their book(s) to go to the Center for Community Solutions here in San Diego, William J. Fisher Accelerated Academy, one of our schools in New Orleans still rebuilding after Katrina, or the Daraja Academy, the only secondary girls’ school in Kenya.”
